Musical jewel box Keeping me busy during the first lock-down was the manufacture of a jewel box for one of my five grand daughters, Tilda. The box was mainly constructed from ‘stuff’ from my ‘come in useful box’ which included a musical movement given to me by a friend. The main carcass of the box was made from some oak panels salvaged from an old wardrobe ‘donated’ to me by my in-laws some years ago. The top was veneered with zebrano, a lovely stripped wood, left over from an earlier project. The inside tray made from plywood panels also from the wardrobe. The name plate is a small piece of brass etched with Tilda’s full name Matilda. Sadly I had to purchase the hinges and catch (eBay) for the princely sum of about £3 Pleased to say that Matilda was pleased with her Christmas present. Anyone else a 'box maker'?
