New Milton Men's Shed

Proposed Programme of Events for 2020

Visits
      Ringwood Brewery

This tour lasts Two hours and as part of the package you will get to see how the barley and hops are transformed into traditional ales and sample several of their brews such as Razorback and old Thumper.
You will be taken around the tun room where the barley and hops are mixed and fermented ( be careful not to get high on the fumes ).
The brewery is on the Ringwood Road just passed the Lidl’s roundabout and the entry fee is £12.00 per person. You will also receive a 20% discount voucher that can be spent in their shop.
At present I am anticipating a visit in early June, exact date depends upon interest. This has to be booked in advance so please don’t hold back if you wish to go.

     Solent Sky

As we never made it to Solent Sky last year, I thought we would try again. The museum explores aviation in Hampshire during 1910 – 1960, with emphasis on its role along the south coast. There are more than 20 aeroplanes and associated artefacts used to enhance the history of aviation during this period along this coast line.

A guided tour includes an insight into the exploits of the Sandringham Flying Boat and Spitfire. You are permitted to sit in the cockpit of the Spitfire and board the Sandringham in order to get a feel of what is was like for the pilots etc.

This venue is wheel chair friendly and has a lift to the upper floor. Unfortunately, there are no refreshment facilities other than a drinks machine but much is available off site.

For a group of 10 or more the entry fee is £6.50 pp or a single entry is £8.00. If we require a guide there is also a £25.00 fee in addition to the entry fee for a group size of up to 20.

This is open to wives etc; and is planned for October.

Sea City Southampton - above and below the Old Town

Enjoy a guided tour through Southampton hidden history walking through the paths above and below the old town. The tour explores and reveals some interesting and thought provokeing stories of merchant mayhem and murder along the way, while visiting some medieval beneath the town streets.

The tour lasts approximately one hour at a cost of £65.00 for a group 25 plus a £4.00 entrance fee per person. On that basis the cost will be £6.60 p.p. and obviously a bit more if the numbers are less than 25

This is proposed to take place in September and as usual is open to wives, partners and invited guests. Please remember that members will get priority. Unfortunately, this event is not suitable for wheel chair users.

      Highclere House

If there is sufficient interest this would be a coach trip to the manor where the production of Downton Abbey was made.

Water Cress Line

Enjoy a ride on a steam train. Potted history of the line and a look behind the scenes of the workshop.

Journey through time on a steam train enjoying the beautiful Hampshire countryside. Reminisce in bygone times when strolling along the station platform with a tour guide and see behind the scenes as to how the steam trains and rolling stock are maintained and repaired.

Our journey starts from New Milton, by car, (map to be supplied ) approximately 1hr to our destination of Alresford where we board the train.A pre bookable meal is available and a menu and price guide is available should you wish to take advantage of this facility, As an alternative there is a platform buffet/café where a range of refreshments are available. Be aware that the cafe is rather small.

This trip is wheel chair friendly as ramps and a designated carriage is available for wheel chair users and specially designed for security. There is a limit of six at a time so early booking is essential. Carers go free with a full fee paying passenger.

The cost of this trip is £13.00 per person providing there are 15 or more in the group. It is anticipated to run this in May so as to miss the school holidays. Therefore it is essential that we book A.S.A.P in order to get one of the dates available in May as there will be many groups seeking this opportunity.

    Highcliffe Castle Tour

This event is in two parts. Firstly, we will receive a talk at the club followed by a behind the scene tour of the castle.

The tour fee inclusive of a guide is £8.00 per person and as usual is open to all.
